What admin is leaving on the table

Unbilled extras and hours that should not need you. Every builder knows admin is costing them something. Almost nobody has put a number on it. Your numbers, one year.

  • Changes you did and never billed $84,000

Work already paid for in labour and materials, at full margin lost.

  • Your time on admin $35,000

368 hours a year, costed at 46 working weeks.

  • The job that goes sideways $15,000

Spread across the year, not a bill you get every job.

Bring these numbers to the demo. We'll go through where Rory would actually catch them, and where it wouldn't.

How the number is worked out

No black box. Three lines added together.

  • Changes never billed = projects a year × changes per job × what one is worth.
  • Your time on admin = hours a week × 46 weeks × what an hour is worth.
  • The job that goes sideways = projects a year × the chance of it × what it costs.

Turnover for the percentage is a typical project times projects a year. Everything rounds to the nearest hundred, because the input was a guess and a figure to the dollar would be pretending otherwise.

The point isn't our arithmetic. It's that you've now got a number you can take to your own planning, and you built it out of your own jobs.

A builder's kitchen table late at night: invoices, a calculator, a laptop and a hi-vis shirt over the chair.

Why we ask you to do this

Because our number would mean nothing.

Software companies love telling builders what they're losing. You know your jobs better than we do. The only figure worth anything is the one you built, and if it comes out small, that's a real answer too.

If it comes out big, that's profit you already earned and never invoiced. The next question is easy: is it worth a fraction of that to close it?

Now see which of them
Rory would actually catch.
