How firm to be

You don't need an account. Nothing goes to your client: you copy each message and send it yourself. By making a plan you agree to the terms; see how we handle your details in the privacy policy.

Letter of demand template

A letter of demand, filled in for you, when the reminders haven't worked.

For a late payment the plan builds up: a friendly reminder, a firm reminder, a final notice, then a letter of demand. Each one is dated and written to copy and send. The letter of demand also comes as a PDF with the amount, the reference and the date it was due already in it.

If it's for building work, residential or commercial, your state's Security of Payment Act may give you a faster route than a letter. The plan points you to it, and Footing's free tools work out the payment schedule deadlines for your state.

The limits

What it does, and what it won't.

What you get

  • A date for each step, from the day it was due or the day you sent it
  • Each message written for you to copy and send, in the tone you pick
  • A letter of demand PDF for a late payment
  • For building work, a pointer to your state's Security of Payment route
  • An email when each step is due, if you ask for one. Unsubscribe any time

What it won't do

  • Give legal advice
  • Send anything to your client. You copy it and send it yourself
  • Read your contract. The dates come from what you enter
  • Lodge an adjudication application or a court claim for you

Templates and calculations only — not legal, financial or professional advice. Check everything against your contract and the law, or get advice, before you rely on it or send it. Folkware isn't responsible for how you use it. Read the terms.

Chase plan FAQ

Questions about chasing.

A formal letter that says what's owed, what it's for, when it was due, and the date you need it paid by before you take it further. In the plan it's the last step for a late payment, after the friendly reminder, the firm reminder and the final notice.

Yes. Pick NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, SA, TAS, ACT or NT. The dates and the Security of Payment pointer follow the state you pick.

Every state has one for building work, residential and commercial. It sets out payment claims, payment schedules and strict deadlines, with a faster route to getting paid than court. For a late payment on building work, the plan points you to it, and Footing's free tools work out the payment schedule deadlines for your state.

No. Every message is for you to copy and send yourself. If you ask for reminders, they come to you, not your client, and you can unsubscribe any time.

No. Fill in the form and the plan comes back. If you want an email when each step is due, open your plan and put in your email address. We send one email to confirm it first.

Yes. Pick "A quote that's gone quiet" and you get follow-ups spaced out over about three weeks, then a point where the plan says to stop chasing and move on.
